Step 1
Shampoo and condition your hair. Towel dry, leaving your hair rather on the wet side. You may want to have a spray bottle of water nearby to keep your hair moist during the process of cutting your hair.Youmay also want to use mousse or gel to prevent your hair from drying too fast.
Step 2
Comb your wet hair straight back. With your comb, evenly section off about one half inch of hair as though you are going to cut bangs, but continue the section all the way down your face in front of the ears. Tie up the rest of your hair to keep it out of the way. You should see a straight line from the top of your head to the sides.
Step 3
Bring the top-section hair forward and down in front of your eyes. Using your nose as a measurement for length, cut the section of hair straight across to just the outer edges of your eyes. Your starting cut should be at the tip of your nose, but if you want your hair shorter, cut higher up but never higher than the bridge of your nose. You should now have a straight line from the outer edge of one eye to the other.
This line will be your length guide for cutting the remainder of your hair. The further down your nose you make your first cut, the longer your overall haircut will be.
Step 4
Standing in front of the mirror, comb the section you’ve just cut straight up. Holding your hair between your index finger and your middle finger in a scissor-like grip, snip off just the very tips of this section. All
you are trying to do here is get a straight line while the hair is held straight up. Cut too much, and you will have a shorter haircut overall.
Step 4
Comb the sides of the section straight up pulling with it some of the hair you’ve just cut. Notice that you can easily see how the sides are longer than the cut section. Using the bangs cut as your guide, and holding the side sections straight up, make your next cuts straight across. When you let the hair go you will notice that it falls easily into layers.
Step 5
With your comb, section off another small halo of hair from ear to ear combing it forward and keeping the remainder of your hair tied up. Comb the new section of hair straight up, pulling with it the first section
as your cutting guide. You should easily see where the first section was cut and the new section that is needing to be cut. Cut the second section evenly with the first. Pull the side sections straight up again tocut it even with the bang area.
Step 6
Continue sectioning and pulling the hair straight up and cutting across using the guide lines from each previous cut. Be careful not to section off too much for each new cut, as it makes it difficult to see where your cutting guideline is. You will continue sectioning and cutting all the way to the back of your head, pulling each section straight up until you have sectioned and cut all of your hair. The possibilities are endless!

Read my story, it's one we can all relate to:
Dear soon-to-be a professional haircutter,
My name is Julia Dean and I've been cutting my own hair and the hair of my family members for over 4 years now. If I was to count the money I've saved from not having to go to the hairdresser's I would probably be looking at thousands by now.
Nowadays, I have a part time business cutting the hair of my friends, and neighbours. They all started asking me where I got my hair cut - and I just told them I did it myself... and things kind of took off from there. [Now it's your turn]
It wasn't always like this though. Several years ago I was a struggling stay-at-home mom having to take care of 2 beautiful children. My husband's income hardly covered the bills.... well I don't want to drag you into the whole story here, but to make a long story short:

We DEFINITELY couldn't afford to go to the hair salon, in fact we couldn't afford much at all

Our Hair started getting longer... on all of us. Someone had to cut it, with the way that the economy was and with our bills mounting the hair dressers was at the back of our minds (and further away from our pockets).
One day, I was talking to one of my old friends about our troubles, and she told me I should go and see a 62-year-old friend of hers who cuts hair (Mary). She told me of Mary's almost *magic* abilities to cut people's hair. The reason she told me about her was that she had some serious issue against professional hairdressers - so she always cut hair for free.
Great! I thought - I got Mary's phone number from my friend and called her and managed to book an appointment the next week.
Fast forward one week... when I went to see Mary, the first thing I noticed was her amazing haircut. I silently said "Wow!" to myself...
We spoke for a few minutes... and when I asked if she could cut my own and my kids' hair - she flatly refused!
I was really upset and couldn't understand why she would be this way with me... I was broke, had no knowledge of how to cut hair, but for placing a bowl on the top of our heads and cutting around it. As my sadness quickly turned to anger..

She said, "Let Me Teach You Instead",

I Just Laughed at Her

"ME?! Cut hair? I've hardly ever held a pair of scissors in my life!"
"So? Don't worry about it," she said.
I was shocked. I really had nothing else to say so I just stood there with my mouth half open.
Well... the next couple of weeks were truly a journey.
She taught me everything... how to cut long hair, short hair, thick, fine, curly hair, straight hair, wavy hair and every other type of hair you could imagine, in fact I spent almost all my free time cutting her clients hair.

"Wow!"

What I learned over that period was nothing short of amazing.
And now, I'd like to share what I've learned with you.
Now you might be thinking that if you try cutting your own hair you would end up failing miserably. But it's not true...

I Can Change That For You

Are you tired of paying top dollar to the hairdresser for a mediocre haircut that looks just like everyone else's?
Are you sick of not being able to cut the hair yourself - and get it JUST the way you like it?
Now I know what you might be thinking...
"But Julia, I've tried cutting my own hair before - and I wouldn't show it to my blind grandmother!"
So... maybe you've tried to cut your own hair before - but it didn't work out the way you liked?
Don't worry, because that's why I'm writing you today.

The Secrets Mary Taught Me I Refined and Now Offer To You!

After Mary had finished teaching me all the basics of cutting hair she started to teach me how to combined the basics in order to create stunning designs. But like I said, fist I mastered the basics.
If you want to learn how to cut hair the right way then you need to memorise this diagram, it is the foundation and the starting point of my book. Knowledge really is power when it comes to cutting hair.

  1. Wet hair is much easier to cut than dry hair. Start with freshly shampooed, tangle-free hair. Keep a bottle of water with a spray nozzle nearby so that you can dampen your hair if it begins to dry while you are working on it.
  2. Be sure that your scissors are nice and sharp to avoid pulling your hair. If you plan to cut your hair on a regular basis, it will be worth investing in a good quality pair of scissors, shears, or clippers designed specifically for use on hair.
  3. You might even want to get a RoboCut, a great haircutting system. No matter what style you choose, cut a little at a time, especially if you are a beginner. You can always cut it a little shorter, but once you've gone too short, all you can do is wait for it to grow back!
  4. Simple styles are best for home hair cuts. The easiest cut will be one length everywhere. Decide on an overall length (it's a good idea to measure your hair when you have a cut that you find especially flattering) and then grab your ruler. Working in small sections, comb your hair straight out from your scalp and hold a section smoothly between your index and middle fingers. Measure to the desired length and carefully snip off the excess. Continue in this manner until you have cut all of your hair. This method works equally well for both men and women, with long hair or short hair. The length of the chosen cut can vary from quite short to shoulder length and beyond.
  5. Do you have dry scalp and dandruff, or do you dream of regrowing hair? I recommend youstrengthen the hair you have and regrow what you've lost using this ancient Indian remedy, known simply as the Herbal Hair Solution .
